BLACK HILLS HORSE EXPO
EQUINE ART & PHOTO CONTEST

To promote horses as subjects in fine art and share their beauty with the public,
we invite everyone to participate in our art and photography show.

2008 ART CONTEST RESULTS

General Information:

Divisions:

  • Drawing (includes charcoal and pastel)
  • Painting
  • Sculpture
  • Photography
  • All Other Media (ceramics, textiles, leather, prints, etc.)

Age Groups:

  • Child: Ages 12 and under
  • Youth: Ages 13-18
  • Adult: Ages 19 and over

Awards:

Awards will be given to the first three places in each division as determined by the official judge. People’s Choice awards, based on public vote, will also be given in each division.

Rules:

  • All artwork and photos must be the original work of the individual submitting the entry.
  • All entries must feature horses as their main subject.
  • All entries must be properly prepared for exhibiting. Drawings, paintings, and photos must be properly matted, framed, and ready to hang.
  • Artwork and photography will be judged on originality, technique, composition, color, concept, and matting and framing (if required).
  • The judge’s decisions are final.
  • Exhibitors submit entries at their own risk.
  • The Black Hills Horse Expo assumes no responsibility for damaged or lost entries.
  • All entries must be left in place until the end of the show.
  • No entry will be removed from the exhibit area until it is checked out with a staff member. An authorization form is required for a third-party to pick up entries.

Fees:

  • Adults will be charged $5.00 for each entry, or $10.00 for each three pieces entered.
  • Children and Youth entries are free..
  • Entries may be offered for sale during the show. Ten percent of the selling price must be donated to Black Hills Horse Expo.

  • All proceeds from these fees will benefit Northern Hills Area CASA.
